Feathercoin have recently released their latest client (0.6.4.3) featuring Advanced Checkpointing. As it stands, checkpointing is set to be 5000 blocks behind the current block. The new checkpointing system will automatically checkpoint the latest block. The feature is set to go live on September 2nd to give people a chance to update to the latest client before the change is fully implemented.
Checkpointing is used to prevent attacks such as a large group of miners altering the main blockchain. It ensures that all nodes are connecting to a developer approved blockchain. Advanced checkpointing allows for checkpoints to be sent out without needing to re-install the client. This operates via a master node.
You can download the latest client from the Feathercoin website.
