ASIC’s are what you need to watch out for now. There is currently a lot of uncertainty with them. A lot of places offering them are delayed in shipping (Some people have been waiting over a year for their order). Some are scams, they’ll just take your money and run. The problem with them is that if ever they actually start shipping, they’re pretty much going to kill the profit from mining Bitcoins with your video cards.
The cool thing about Scrypt based coins (Litecoin, Digitalcoin, etc…) is that, so far, you can’t mine them with ASIC’s (until someone figures it out… but so far… we don’t believe that will happen for a few years… and when it does… expect a year long delay in shipping…. so should be safe for now).
